When Chuyi saw the new arrivals, he frowned. What on earth had this family done to deserve this?
There wasn’t a single trace of any ghostly presence on any of these people!
Chuyi had no choice but to reach for another Talisman. Just as he was about to toss it at the boy who had walked in, he heard the teenager speak again: "What sister? This is so annoying, I’m in a rush to get back and play games!"
Upon hearing this, Chuyi paused, his eyes narrowing as he watched the boy.
Very well. He actually dared to say he disliked Nuonuo?
In that case, he would let him get a taste of what it was like to be haunted by a ghost.
Chuyi tucked the Talisman away and snapped his fingers. A small, white Spirit Child, looking about five years old, flew out from behind him.
"Tonight, go into that boy’s dreams and give him a good scare."
A faint smile touched the corner of Chuyi’s mouth. To dare to say he disliked his little ancestor—hmpf, he would show him a thing or two.
The little white Spirit Child nodded blankly and flew toward the teenager.
Just as Nuonuo turned to look at the boy, she caught a glimpse of a white light darting into the top of his head. She was just about to ask Chuyi what it was when his voice reached her: "Don't worry about it, Nuonuo; I’m the one who sent it."
Nuonuo looked up at Chuyi on the ceiling in confusion. Chuyi merely raised an eyebrow at her in a leisurely manner. Though Nuonuo didn’t quite understand, she obeyed him quietly.
Suddenly, a cry of shock rang out: "Ouch! Big brother, what are you doing?"
The boy grabbed his head and shouted.
Nuonuo’s attention was drawn, and she turned to look at him.
"Li Che, apologize to your sister."
Li Jing’s voice was stern, demanding obedience.
Although Li Che’s face was full of reluctance, he still muttered, "I’m sorry, sister."
Hearing his youngest son’s words, the dark expression on Li Hanchen’s face softened slightly.
Li Lingxiao had also returned by this time. Seeing that his eldest brother’s family had arrived, along with his parents, Elder Li and Li Jingcheng, it was time to eat.
Li Xiran had flown out of town that morning and couldn't make it back, so they didn't wait for her.
Seeing his sister-in-law holding his daughter, Li Lingxiao wanted to take Nuonuo back. He hadn't seen his soft, cuddly little girl all day, and he missed her terribly.
However, it was clear that his sister-in-law was not going to give him the chance.
Throughout the meal, his sister-in-law and his mother kept holding Nuonuo, refusing to let go. Li Lingxiao couldn't fight the women for her; after all, the women in their family were all strong-willed, and he knew he wouldn't win. He could only sit to the side, silently watching his daughter laugh as they fussed over her.
After eating, Li Che sat on the sofa playing video games, completely ignoring Nuonuo. He couldn’t understand why his two older brothers were so obsessed with a little brat; girls were just too much trouble.
Chuyi watched Li Che, his frown so deep it could have crushed a fly.
This kid was truly insufferable. If he hadn't known the boy was possessed by something unclean, he would have slapped a Talisman on him long ago to teach him how to behave!
Li Che played a round of games on the sofa, then looked at his older brother and parents, who showed no signs of leaving. His eyes were full of impatience.
"Dad, Mom, when are we leaving?" Li Che asked with a look of irritation.
"You brat, we’ve barely sat down and you’re already telling us to leave? Do you want to get a beating?" Li Hanchen looked coldly at his youngest son, his eyes filled with anger.
Li Che seemed completely indifferent to his father’s murderous gaze, responding dismissively, "I’m in a hurry to go home and play games!"
Before Li Hanchen could speak, Li Lingxiao stood up, walked over, and with his hands in his pockets, looked down at his nephew. "Li Che, since you’re so bored, why don’t you go outside and get some proper training? It seems like it’s been a while since I put you through your paces."
Li Che used to be quite afraid of Li Lingxiao, but lately, he had been acting like he feared nothing at home.
Li Che scoffed dismissively. "You’re not my dad. What right do you have to discipline me?"
A vein throbbed on Li Lingxiao’s forehead. This kid really needed to be taught a lesson.
Without another word, Li Lingxiao snatched the phone from Li Che’s hands, making a move to smash it.
Li Che went berserk, standing up and roaring, "Third Uncle, what right do you have to grab my phone!"
Li Hanchen’s expression soured as well, and he said in a low voice, "Li Che, apologize to your Third Uncle!"
"Why should I apologize? You’re the ones meddling with me first! What right do you have to manage me?" Li Che’s voice grew louder and louder. He looked like a little lion ready to explode.
Li Jingcheng had not wanted to interfere with his grandson, but seeing him become increasingly arrogant, he slammed his cane hard against the floor. His aged voice echoed through the room: "Li Che, I am ordering you now: go to the courtyard and run ten laps. You are not allowed back inside until you finish!"
Although Li Che looked defiant, he instinctively followed Elder Li’s command.
He glared at Li Hanchen and Li Lingxiao with eyes like those of an enemy, but eventually, he obediently headed for the front courtyard.
Li Jingcheng instructed the butler to keep an eye on him and not let him back in until the laps were done.
Nuonuo had watched it all. She could feel that this brother of hers wasn't inherently bad, but his temper had turned sour because of the unclean thing clinging to him.
Yun Jinxiu felt heartbroken, wondering how her once obedient, sweet-natured grandson had turned into this.
"Nuonuo, don't worry about your third brother. He used to be a good kid; perhaps it’s just the stress of his studies lately."
Mo Yun'er looked helplessly in the direction her youngest son had gone. Her heart ached too; she didn't know why her once filial and obedient boy had become like this.
Nuonuo blinked her large eyes and nodded. "Nuonuo knows! Third Brother is just possessed by a bad ghosty. Once the ghosty goes away, Third Brother will be good again!"
Hearing this, everyone present, except for Li Lingxiao, froze.
"Nuonuo, what do you mean by that?"
Yun Jinxiu was a lady of refinement, but she believed in the supernatural; there were some things science simply couldn't explain.
Li Lingxiao stepped forward at the right moment, took his daughter from Yun Jinxiu’s arms, and said gently, "Nuonuo, why don't you go play outside? Dad and Grandma need to discuss something."
Nuonuo nodded obediently and turned to go to the courtyard.
Once she was gone, Yun Jinxiu turned to Li Lingxiao: "Lingxiao, what exactly did Nuonuo mean?"
Li Lingxiao told them everything that had happened the day before. Everyone fell into a heavy silence. It was hard to believe that ghosts truly existed in this world.
After hearing the story, Yun Jinxiu took the prayer beads from her wrist and turned them nervously. "Lingxiao, could something like this affect Nuonuo?"
Li Lingxiao shook his head. He didn't know for sure, but looking at Nuonuo’s state, she didn't seem to be affected at all. Besides, there was a master always protecting her.
