Chapter 14

The Selfish Ghost nodded repeatedly: "Yes, Dao Lord, please spare my life, Dao Lord! I won't dare do it again. I was just following orders, I couldn't help it!"
Nuonuo and Chuyi exchanged a glance. Chuyi knew that they wouldn't be able to get any more information out of the Selfish Ghost. Ghosts like this usually had a contract with their master; as long as the contract was active, they were incapable of revealing any information about their master unless the master allowed it.
"Nuonuo, how do you want to handle it?" Chuyi looked down at the little girl. He figured she could use this Selfish Ghost for practice.
Nuonuo thought for a moment. She knew these ghosts were being used by others and didn't want to make things too difficult for them. She looked up at Chuyi and asked, "Brother Chuyi, can Nuonuo help the Selfish Ghost reincarnate?"
Chuyi had already guessed she would do this, so he gave a slight nod.
Seeing Chuyi's approval, Nuonuo smiled happily. She turned to the Selfish Ghost and asked, "Selfish Ghost, if Nuonuo lets you go to reincarnation now, would you like that?"
Upon hearing this, the Selfish Ghost’s face was filled with gratitude: "Yes, yes, Little Celestial Master, I am willing! I am willing to reincarnate!"
Nuonuo imitated Chuyi's movements and nodded. She formed a seal with her small hands and whispered: "Heaven and earth return to one, all things turn to dust; past lives end, begin anew, reincarnate and become human."
The Selfish Ghost’s body suddenly regained movement. Li Che watched with his own eyes as the ghost before him slowly turned transparent, finally vanishing into a wisp of blue smoke.
Once the Selfish Ghost had completely disappeared, Nuonuo sighed, dusted off her small hands, and turned to Li Che: "All done! Now there are no more bad ghosts on Third Brother anymore!"
Li Che snapped out of his shock. Looking at Nuonuo, the disgust that had previously clouded his expression was gone, and his eyes appeared much clearer.
"Um, Nuonuo, was that ghost really on me?" Li Che still couldn't believe that a ghost had been living inside him.
Nuonuo nodded: "Yes, Third Brother! Brother Chuyi told Nuonuo. Brother Chuyi can see the ghosts on you. Brother Chuyi also said that if the ghost stayed on you for much longer, it would have sucked all your Yang energy dry and turned you into a Jiangshi!"
Li Che was stunned by Nuonuo's words. This was just... too cool! A look of excitement suddenly appeared on his face, his eyes filled with a kind of "innocent foolishness," making him look every bit the teenager in his rebellious phase.
"Nuonuo, you're amazing! Thank you for saving me today. I’ve felt so strange lately, and I felt like I couldn't control my own body at all—so many things I did weren't what I actually wanted to do." Recalling his recent behavior, he realized it was indeed abnormal. So, it was all that ghost's doing!
This was the first time Nuonuo had been praised for being amazing. Her face flushed red, and she shyly scratched her head with a small hand: "Hehe, Nuonuo isn't that amazing. Brother Chuyi taught Nuonuo everything."
Li Che then remembered the voice he had heard earlier and hurriedly asked: "Nuonuo, is the Brother Chuyi you mentioned the one who was speaking just now?"
Nuonuo nodded.
"Where is Brother Chuyi now?" Li Che turned to look at his side. It was empty. Since he could see ghosts now, did that mean he should be able to see him?
Nuonuo pointed to Li Che’s side. Chuyi was standing there, arms crossed, looking rather cocky: "Brother Chuyi is right here!"
Li Che looked over, but saw nothing—he only felt a cold breeze.
"You want to see me? Who do you think you are?"
Chuyi's voice suddenly rang out, scaring Li Che so badly he nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Holy crap! You scared the hell out of me!" Li Che scrambled back two steps and fell onto the grass. He had imagined many ways Chuyi might appear, but he never expected just a voice, let alone one that sounded like it was right in his ear.
Seeing that Li Che was truly back to normal, Chuyi waved his hand and recalled the little spirit he had sent into Li Che's body. He had only wanted to teach Li Che a lesson, but now, it didn't seem necessary anymore.
Recovering from the fright, Li Che sprang up from the ground and said excitedly: "Wow, Nuonuo, this is just too cool!"
Nuonuo watched Li Che’s erratic behavior and thought to herself that her Third Brother seemed a bit silly.
"Nuonuo, can you teach me? I want to be a Daoist too, it feels so cool!" Li Che crouched down, his eyes full of expectation.
Before Nuonuo could speak, Chuyi flatly refused: "No. You don't have the level for it, and you have no talent."
Li Che wasn't offended by Chuyi's words. He said with genuine sincerity: "That's alright, Master Chuyi. I will study the relevant knowledge, and I’ll show you that I have talent."
Chuyi didn't want to talk to Li Che anymore and turned to head back into the villa.
Feeling a sudden chill, Li Che picked Nuonuo up: "Little sister, let's go back inside. It’s getting windy out here."
Nuonuo nodded in Li Che’s arms. Her Third Brother seemed quite gentle after all; clearly, it was all that Selfish Ghost’s fault for making him act bad!
As Li Che carried Nuonuo into the living room, Mo Yun'er saw her youngest son holding her and stood up, moving with lightning speed to snatch Nuonuo away from him.
"Li Che, your sister is still small. Don't go around carrying her." Mo Yun'er checked Nuonuo over anxiously to see if she had been hurt.
Li Che stood there stunned. Did he look like some kind of villain who would bully a child? That seemed a bit excessive.
"Mom, I just..." Before Li Che could explain, his father landed a fist on his head: "How old are you now? What's the meaning of bullying your little sister?"
Li Che felt utterly wronged. He hadn't done anything; he had just brought her back inside!
"Nuonuo, tell Uncle, did that brat Li Che say anything to you or bully you? If he did, Uncle will handle him for you!" Li Hanchen looked at Nuonuo with tender concern.
Li Lingxiao also watched his daughter with worry, knowing that Li Che was reckless, disrespectful, and lacked any sense of propriety.
Seeing the family's reaction, Li Che felt like he was about to cry. He wanted to explain, but felt powerless to do so—after all, that was exactly how he had been acting lately.
Li Jing and Li Sheng also stood beside Li Che, ready to jump him the moment Nuonuo said she had been bullied.
"Third Brother didn't bully Nuonuo! Nuonuo had a lot of fun playing with Third Brother!" Nuonuo said with a grin as she looked at the tense family.
The living room fell silent. Playing... happily with Li Che? Were they mishearing things, or had that brat threatened Nuonuo?
"Nuonuo, don't be afraid. Tell Dad, did Li Che tell you not to say anything?" Li Lingxiao didn't believe that Li Che could be that gentle with his daughter. His little girl couldn't be bullied by anyone!
