Chapter 16

Sū Fēi stared into Zhào Dōng's eyes. It was with words like these that he had snatched her away from the Wei Family's engagement banquet, so domineering and unreasonable.
Zhào Dōng nodded seriously. "Of course it counts!"
Sū Fēi gave a cold laugh and said, "Are you satisfied now? Happy? Proud? Let me tell you, I'm broke now, and I might become homeless in the future. Don't you dare regret it then!"
With that, she turned and left.
Zhào Dōng was a bit bewildered. What was the meaning of her losing her temper at him?
Could it be that she was going to blame him for all of this?
For the first time, Zhào Dōng experienced the Goddess Su's petulance, willfulness, and unreasonable demands. Suppressing his temper, he quickly followed.
He had only taken a couple of steps when he saw Sū Fēi being stopped.
"President Su, are you shopping too?"
Two girls approached them. They looked young and pretty, dressed fashionably. Judging by how they addressed her, they were probably subordinates from the company.
Sū Fēi nodded calmly. As a naturally cold and domineering CEO, even when in a bad mood, she didn't show any unusual signs.
"And this is..."
One of the girls' gaze fell upon Zhào Dōng, and she wisely closed her mouth.
Sū Fēi was equally stunned, a look of surprise flashing across her face.
She hadn't expected to run into subordinates from her company while grocery shopping, especially at this hour. Appearing at a supermarket with a strange man to buy groceries was already out of the ordinary, but how could she introduce him?
She absolutely couldn't call him "husband." As for a friend, it also felt a bit awkward.
Not to mention whether the two opposite her would believe it, even if they did, there would surely be gossip at the company tomorrow.
Sū Fēi didn't usually care about such baseless rumors, but with the company facing internal and external difficulties, any whisper could be the last straw that broke the camel's back.
She didn't crave wealth and luxury, but she also didn't want the Su Family to be ruined in her hands.
Zhào Dōng stepped forward to help her out. "Miss Su, I'll help you put the groceries in the car."
The two girls looked enlightened and asked, pointing and chattering, "President Su, you even bring a bodyguard when you go out?"
Sū Fēi glanced at Zhào Dōng's retreating back with a complex expression, feeling a bit sorry for him. She gave a cursory reply and quickly hurried after him.
Zhào Dōng didn't have the car keys, so he could only stand foolishly by the car, enduring the strange glances from passersby.
Sū Fēi caught up, opened the trunk, and after Zhào Dōng got into the passenger seat, she said apologetically, "I'm sorry, just now..."
Zhào Dōng smiled. "It's okay, I'm used to it."
Silence for the rest of the ride.
When Sū Fēi turned off the engine and got out, Zhào Dōng was already standing by the door with the shopping bags.
The car door opened, and the first thing to emerge was a pair of slender, straight legs, a delicate ankle that could be held in one's grip, a slightly arched instep that was sexy and alluring, and five toes nestled within high-heeled sandals like painted nails.
Zhào Dōng sighed; a goddess was a goddess, even a simple act of getting out of the car could exude infinite charm.
Guiding Zhào Dōng to the kitchen, Sū Fēi finally spoke. "Do you want me to help?"
It was a polite formality. Having lived in this apartment for over half a year, the kitchen felt more like decoration to her.
She had entered the kitchen only a handful of times. Forget knowing where the bowls and chopsticks were; she didn't even know which way to turn the gas stove knob.
Zhào Dōng certainly didn't expect the Goddess Su, who disliked manual labor, to be of any help. He asked her to rest on the sofa and busied himself.
The kitchen was spotless; even all the utensils and cookware were brand new.
Zhào Dōng marveled, finding it hard to imagine how she had managed her meals before.
Fortunately, the kitchen facilities were complete, with all sorts of tools needed for cooking, all international brands. While they didn't greatly enhance his culinary skills, they were easy to use.
Sū Fēi pulled over a thin blanket and curled up on the sofa like a kitten, sleeping for a short while.
She didn't need Zhào Dōng to call her; she was awakened entirely by the aroma.
Rubbing her eyes, she came to the dining room. One stir-fried meat dish, two stir-fried vegetable dishes, braised fish, and fish head soup. A standard four-dish, one-soup meal, all appealing in color, aroma, and taste.
For a rich spread to be served in her own home felt like a dream to Sū Fēi.
"You made this?"
She reached for her chopsticks first, picking up a piece and savoring it.
Zhào Dōng wiped his hands on his apron. "How is it? To your liking?"
"It's good!"
Sū Fēi's eyes narrowed with appreciation. Though these two words seemed perfunctory, in her vocabulary, they were high praise.
The four dishes and one soup were quickly devoured, with her contributing more than half of the effort.
Zhào Dōng tidied up and washed the dishes.
She watched from the side. The scent of the food still lingered in the air, and the residual warmth from the kitchen brushed against her face.
It gave this cold house a touch of life, making it feel more like a complete home.
Sū Fēi was startled by a sudden thought.
She quickly admonished herself: her arrangement with Zhào Dōng was just a façade. They would go their separate ways in a month, and she absolutely couldn't be bought by a meal. Only then could she barely suppress the flutter in her heart.
Having finished, Zhào Dōng glanced at the time: nine o'clock.
Sū Fēi had been taken care of all evening and felt a bit embarrassed. She was contemplating how to thank him when, unexpectedly, Zhào Dōng had changed into his security uniform and was getting ready to leave.
She instinctively asked, "Where are you going?"
"To work."
Zhào Dōng had already put on his shoes.
"Working so late?"
Sū Fēi was first taken aback, then remembered that Zhào Dōng's job was indeed a night shift.
But he had gotten up so early today and had been busy all day; did he still have the energy for a night shift?
Zhào Dōng didn't think too much about it and made a joke, "If I don't work hard, how can I earn money to support the family?"
The serious atmosphere became much more natural. Sū Fēi, in good spirits, chided, "Don't flatter yourself. Who needs you to support them? I'm the Executive Vice President of Su Family Corporation, with a monthly salary of thirty thousand. Who's supporting whom is still up in the air!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly felt that her words were a bit ambiguous. Before she could add anything, Zhào Dōng had already turned around.
She quickly chased after him, "Hey, um, are you coming back tonight?"
Seeing Zhào Dōng freeze, she quickly explained, "Don't misunderstand..."
Zhào Dōng knew that this marriage with Sū Fēi was a shotgun wedding.
For Sū Fēi, it was probably just a play for her family.
To put it more bluntly, he was a tool for her to stalemate with her family, an excuse to fend off the Wei Family.
Did she really take this relationship seriously?
He wasn't that naive.
Besides, perhaps the Goddess Su was already regretting it.
Zhào Dōng was self-aware. Before she could fully accept this relationship, he didn't want to cling around.
He made a phone gesture and said, "I get off work very late. I'll just go back to the dorm. If you need anything, call me anytime."
Zhào Dōng turned to open the door and was immediately stunned.
A man stood outside the door. He looked like he was about to knock, but before he could raise his hand, Zhào Dōng had opened it first.
The man looked no older than twenty, dressed in trendy brands, with a hip-hop style from head to toe, wearing a tilted baseball cap and ridiculously exaggerated skate shoes.
Zhào Dōng asked, "Who are you looking for?"
The other party was also stunned for a moment upon seeing Zhào Dōng.
He took off his sunglasses, his expression strange, and asked with disdain, "Who the hell are you?"
As he spoke, he pushed Zhào Dōng aside and tried to barge in.
Zhào Dōng didn't move, blocking him with his hand. He repeated the question, "Who are you looking for?"
The trendy man's eyes widened, and he retorted arrogantly, "What business is it of yours who I'm looking for? What are you, some kind of big shot? Get lost!"
Unwilling to waste words, he yelled and tried to force his way in. "Sū Fēi, where are you? Who is this grandson blocking me?"
Hearing the man's foul language, Zhào Dōng was no longer polite.
He applied a bit more force and pushed the man away.
The trendy man stumbled and hit a stone pillar by the door.
He angrily threw off his hat. "You damn security guard, you think you're so tough? You dare push me!"
Zhào Dōng's eyes instantly darkened. Before he could step forward, footsteps sounded from behind him.
