Chen Muye did not bring up the toy again. He tucked the gift Li Shujin had given him away carefully. Although it was technically an evening for not reviewing, the teachers had announced during class that a new round of mock exams would begin the next day. Li Shujin spent the evening primarily explaining test-taking techniques to Chen Muye—things like the common strategy of tackling easy questions before difficult ones. They covered this for more than half of the study hall period. After that, she let Chen Muye read on his own to prepare for the two days of mock exams ahead. Chen Muye didn't think much about it and took out his books to study. The entire high school curriculum had been completed by the first semester of senior year. The final semester was nothing but an endless stream of practice problems and exams. Of course, someone like Li Shujin was an exception; her final semester of high school remained as carefree and cheerful as ever.
