Zhang Zhi and Lin Wan'er made their way forward through this mysterious continent with the mysterious jade pendant. Their figures appeared small yet resolute on the winding path. Dark clouds filled the sky, resembling a massive gray silk cloth pressing heavily down upon their heads, creating a heavy and oppressive atmosphere.
A fierce wind howled, blowing the surrounding trees from side to side and producing a creaking sound. Lin Wan'er looked up at the increasingly gloomy sky, and the anxiety in her heart grew as thick as the gathering dark clouds.
"Zhang Zhi, the weather doesn't look good. We need to find a place to shelter from the rain quickly," Lin Wan'er said anxiously. Her voice was somewhat broken by the wind, and her brows were tightly furrowed.
Zhang Zhi's gaze swept rapidly across the surroundings, his eyes resolute and sharp. Suddenly, he pointed not far away and said, "Let's go take shelter in that cave over there." With that, he pulled Lin Wan'er along and quickened his pace.
The two hurriedly ran into the cave. Not long after they entered, a torrential downpour poured down like a breached embankment. The raindrops crashed violently against the ground, splashing up patches of water.
The cave was dark, damp, and permeated with a foul odor. Lin Wan'er cautiously found a relatively dry stone to sit on, sighed softly, and said, "Who knows how long this rain will last?" Her voice echoed in the empty cave, carrying a trace of helplessness and bewilderment.
Zhang Zhi walked to the cave entrance, gazing at the pouring curtain of rain outside, his eyes revealing deep thought. He was pondering how to proceed on the road ahead and how to find the legendary sage to unlock the secret of the jade pendant.
"Zhang Zhi, do you think that sage can really help us unlock the secret of the jade pendant?" Lin Wan'er broke the silence, her voice carrying a hint of uncertainty and anticipation.
Zhang Zhi turned around, looked into Lin Wan'er's worry-filled eyes, and said firmly, "No matter what, we must try. Even if there is only a sliver of hope, we cannot give up." His voice was steady and powerful, as if injecting a shot of adrenaline into Lin Wan'er.
The rain continued to fall relentlessly, and the atmosphere inside the cave grew increasingly heavy. Neither Zhang Zhi nor Lin Wan'er spoke again, each immersed in their own thoughts.
Suddenly, as if she had discovered a new world, Lin Wan'er's eyes lit up, and she said, "Zhang Zhi, look, there seem to be words on the stone wall over there." Her voice was filled with surprise and curiosity.
Zhang Zhi immediately followed the direction she pointed and saw some strange symbols and patterns carved into the stone wall. Those symbols were winding and crooked, resembling ancient incantations that left people baffled.
"Could this be some kind of clue?" Zhang Zhi knitted his brows, walked closer to the stone wall, and observed carefully. His eyes stared fixedly at the symbols, trying to find some clues from them.
Curious, Lin Wan'er also leaned in closer, carefully examining the stone wall, and said, "It looks like some kind of ancient writing, but we can't read it." Her tone carried a trace of frustration.
Zhang Zhi did not respond; he fell into deep thought. Just then, he felt the jade pendant in his hand grow slightly warm. A thought stirred in his heart, and he quickly took out the jade pendant, discovering that the light from the pendant seemed to resonate with the symbols on the stone wall.
"Could this jade pendant interpret these symbols?" Zhang Zhi said pleasantly surprised, his voice trembling slightly with excitement.
He brought the jade pendant close to the stone wall, and the miraculous happened. The light from the jade pendant projected onto the stone wall, and those originally blurred symbols began to gradually become clear, forming passages of text.
"This seems to be the record of a cultivation technique," Zhang Zhi said excitedly, a gleam in his eyes as if he saw the dawn of hope.
Lin Wan'er opened her eyes wide and said in utter astonishment, "A cultivation technique? Will that be of any help to us?" Her heart was filled with both anticipation and some worry.
With a resolute gaze, Zhang Zhi said, "If we can master this cultivation technique, perhaps we can increase our strength and be better equipped to handle the dangers ahead." His tone was full of determination.
Thus, the two began to study the cultivation technique on the stone wall earnestly. However, the technique was profound and difficult to understand, with every single character seeming to hide endless mysteries. They racked their brains, yet their progress was extremely slow.
"This is too hard; I feel like my head is going to explode." Lin Wan'er grabbed her hair irritably, a look of frustration appearing on her face.
Zhang Zhi patted her shoulder and encouraged her, "Don't be discouraged. We'll take it slow; we'll definitely figure it out." His eyes were filled with patience and perseverance.
After a grueling effort, they finally gained some initial understanding of the cultivation technique. Just as they felt a touch of relief, the light of the jade pendant suddenly vanished, and the text on the stone wall instantly became blurry, as if it had never appeared at all.
"What is going on?" Lin Wan'er said anxiously, her voice rising several decibels from tension.
Zhang Zhi furrowed his brows tightly, and after a moment of contemplation, he said, "Perhaps we haven't completely grasped the key to it yet." His gaze remained fixed tightly on the stone wall, unwilling to let go of even a shred of a clue.
Just as they felt puzzled, a heavy set of footsteps came from outside the cave. Zhang Zhi immediately stood up alertly, pulling Lin Wan'er to hide quickly behind a large rock. His heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and he gripped his sword tightly, ready to face any danger that might appear.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, each step seeming to tread upon their hearts. A mysterious figure appeared at the cave entrance. The person was tall, yet shrouded in darkness, making his features impossible to make out.
"Who is it?" Zhang Zhi asked in a lowered voice, his voice filled with vigilance.
The figure did not answer immediately, only slowly walking into the cave. In the darkness, one could only see an aura of danger emanating from his body, making one's hair stand on end.
"Who are you? Why are you here?" The mysterious person's voice was low and hoarse, as if coming from the call of the underworld.
Zhang Zhi and Lin Wan'er exchanged glances, their eyes filled with hesitation and fear, unsure whether they should answer the mysterious person's question.
The mysterious person walked slowly closer, and they could feel that dangerous aura growing stronger by the moment.
"Are you two also searching for that mysterious cultivation technique?" the mysterious person said suddenly, a hint of mockery and provocation in his voice.
Zhang Zhi was startled; he had not expected this mysterious person to know they were studying the technique. Could this person also have some connection to the technique?
The mysterious person continued, "That cultivation technique is not so easily obtained; it hides immense secrets and dangers." His tone was full of warning.
With that, the mysterious person turned and left the cave, leaving behind Zhang Zhi and Lin Wan'er staring at each other in blank dismay, their hearts filled with doubt and unease.
What kind of secret did this cultivation technique hide? Who was that mysterious person? Would they be able to master this cultivation technique and enhance their strength? All of this left a deep cliffhanger, filling their future with unknowns and challenges.
