His gaze remained locked on the source of the sound, filled with determination and resolve; even though his body had reached its absolute limit, his will refused to let him retreat. Lin Wan'er's face was as pale as paper, entirely drained of color. Her lips trembled as she said in a shaking voice, "Big Brother Zhang, I... I'm scared." Her eyes filled with tears, and fear made her almost incapable of thought. Yet her gaze remained fixed on Zhang Zhi, as though he were her only beacon in this boundless darkness. Zhang Zhi looked back at her, a flash of gentleness and firmness in his eyes. He comforted her, saying, "Don't be afraid, Wan'er, I'm here." Although his voice was hoarse, it was filled with strength, as if these few simple words could build an unbreakable defense line for Lin Wan'er.
