The two of them continuously calibrated their aim, moving from clumsy beginnings to eventual proficiency. A single shell could now obliterate several tanks, and the shrapnel scattering from the blasts decimated the Japanese infantry trailing behind them. The Japanese forces advancing from the east suffered heavy losses. Their commander-in-chief was quickly alerted and sent urgent inquiries, but received no response from the artillery position. Consequently, he dispatched men to investigate the cause. "Bang, bang..." As the two were working together on the artillery, they heard a sudden burst of gunfire in the distance.
