This division was the Japanese 7th Division, a Type-A division approximately 30,000 strong. During the day, they were ambushed by the Kuomintang Army, suffering over 2,000 deaths. Combined with an artillery battalion that had been wiped out by Luo Jiang, the 7th Division had already suffered over 3,000 casualties in that single ambush alone.
By nightfall, Luo Jiang launched a sneak attack, slaughtering several thousand more Japanese soldiers. Most importantly, the division commander and several battalion commanders were killed. Deprived of their leadership and low on ammunition, the Japanese troops fell into immediate chaos.
