Chapter 4

3,649 words18 minutes read

"Boss, that Eldest Princess's family background is rock solid. She's the undisputed big sister of the Capital's young generation of high society elites. Her family is filthy rich and she holds sway over both the underworld and the police force nationwide. She's done so much to pursue you, why don't you just agree to her? Being a kept man is wonderful, you know."
"Get lost! Scram!"
"Will do!"
Wang Han paced irritably back and forth across the balcony.
A tall, spirited woman with a ponytail who wore a wicked smirk kept flashing through his mind.
Not even the fourth-ranked assassin on the hit list, Hydra, had ever made Wang Han feel this much like he was sitting on pins and needles.
Just as he was pondering how to dodge this woman, his phone vibrated.
He saw that it was an unfamiliar number.
Acting like a nervous wreck, Wang Han didn't dare answer. He watched anxiously as the caller let it ring for over ten seconds before finally hanging up.
The moment Wang Han breathed a sigh of relief, his phone vibrated once more.
It was a text message.
He tapped it open.
"Good day, sir. My name is Lin Xuefu, and I am Lin Qingyun's granddaughter. I am terribly sorry to disturb you at this hour, but I would like to discuss the new district project with you. I have an idea that I'm sure will interest you greatly. When do you have some time?"
Chapter 8: Coiled Dragon Hand
Wang Han toyed with his phone, then glanced back into the living room at Su Qi.
Their eyes met, and Su Qi instantly averted her gaze from Wang Han, pretending to look elsewhere.
Wang Han withdrew his gaze. Before he could even reply, Lin Xuefu sent another message: "Sir, I understand you just arrived in Jiangning City and might not be entirely familiar with the local situation. If you attempt to handle the new district project entirely on your own, you will undoubtedly face countless obstacles. However, there is a Su Family in Jiangning City whose previous business endeavors align perfectly with your project. If you cooperate with the Jiangning City Su Family, your progress on this project will be twice as effective with half the effort!"
This message came as a complete surprise to Wang Han.
Growing a bit anxious, Lin Xuefu quickly followed up with another message: "Sir, I give you my word on everything I hold dear—handing this project over to the Su Family will bring you nothing but benefits and no harm whatsoever."
Before Wang Han could reply, Lin Xuefu sent another message: "As long as you are willing to cooperate with the Su Family, you can make me do anything."
Thinking of that rather fiery-tempered chick, Wang Han couldn't help offering a wicked smile and replied, "Anything?"
Lin Xuefu gritted her teeth. "Anything!"
"Including surrendering your soul and body?" Wang Han replied deliberately, harboring a petty desire for retaliation.
After a little over a minute, Lin Xuefu replied as if she had finally made up her mind: "Very well, but I have one condition."
"Name it."
"You must hand this project over entirely to Su Qi of the Su Family! As long as you agree, I will grant any demand you make! Including surrendering my body and soul!" Lin Xuefu replied.
This actually caught Wang Han somewhat by surprise; they apparently weren't just shallow, plastic friends.
"I'll consider it."
He slipped his phone into his pocket.
Wang Han pulled open the balcony's glass door. Su Qi was exhausted and had already gone back to her bedroom to rest.
Before he could even warm his seat, Lin Qingyun called him.
"Young Master, I am truly sorry. It was a failure of my discipline; my granddaughter took my phone, found your contact information, and disturbed you."
Wang Han lit a cigarette. "No matter. I actually have something I need you to do anyway. Get me a sniper rifle and two rounds of ammunition, and have them placed in that villa in Longwan District A. I'll pick them up tomorrow."
"Very well, Young Master."
Wang Han thought for a moment. "Oh, and as for the new district project, have the Su Family handle it. Assign the project to Su Qi, and no one else from the Su Family is to lay a finger on it!"
"I'll have Liu Yue take care of it tomorrow."
He hung up.
Wang Han closed his eyes and smoked on the sofa.
Inside the bedroom.
Su Qi lay on the bed, racking her brain for a countermeasure.
Lin Xuefu's call pulled Su Qi out of her thoughts. The moment she answered, Lin Xuefu said excitedly, "Nannan! I just contacted that big shot! He agreed to cooperate with your Su Family on that project! And he even said you'll be in charge!"
Su Qi sat up abruptly. "Really?"
"It's true! My grandfather told me so himself!" Lin Xuefu exclaimed.
"You won't have to marry that fat pig Qin Hao anymore! And you certainly won't have to marry that delivery boy!" Lin Xuefu added.
Su Qi patted her full chest, a flush of excitement still lingering on her cheeks. "Xuefu, when does that big shot have time? I want to thank him in person!"
"I don't know. I've never even seen what he looks like! My grandfather took my phone away, wait and let me ask him. But honestly, this big shot appeared at just the right time—he's practically your lucky star."
"Yeah!" Su Qi nodded heavily.
Lin Xuefu continued, "Nannan, let me come pick you up to stay with me."
"No need, I'm too tired today."
"Then are you sharing a room with that delivery boy tonight? A single man and woman... you guys..."
Lin Xuefu didn't finish her sentence, but her intended meaning was crystal clear.
Su Qi just offered a faint smile. "It's fine, let's see each other tomorrow."
She hung up.
A hint of a smile finally graced Su Qi's pretty face, which had previously been riddled with worry.
Before she knew it, she drifted off to sleep.
When she woke up the next morning.
Su Qi hastily checked her clothes; they were completely undisturbed.
She stepped out and noticed the door to the other bedroom was open.
Walking over, she saw Wang Han doing push-ups on a single brick set upright, balancing entirely on two fingers.
Su Qi's expression turned to one of astonishment.
She knew quite a few fitness enthusiasts, but not a single one possessed such a skill.
This delivery boy had impressed Su Qi yet again.
"Awoken?"
Wang Han finished his exercise, flipped around, and stood up.
"What kind of training is this?" Su Qi asked with curiosity.
"Coiled Dragon Hand," Wang Han replied casually.
Su Qi paused for a moment. "Did you just make up some random name to fool me?"
Wang Han applied some special medicinal liquid to both hands without offering an explanation; even if he told her, Su Qi wouldn't necessarily believe it.
This wasn't some ordinary martial art, but authentic traditional national martial arts.
The concept of national martial arts was coined in the last century as an abbreviation for national wushu.
These weren't just flashy routines meant for show—they were genuine, lethal combat techniques!
In this day and age, influenced by a bunch of clowns, the mere mention of martial arts instantly draws countless armchair warriors who huff and puff just walking up a flight of stairs, swarming in like a plague of locusts to critique and declare that these are all showy tricks useless in actual combat.
Yet true experts never waste time explaining.
Wang Han had practiced martial arts since childhood.
Before he began training, the old man had told him:
A practitioner of martial arts
Must uphold martial virtue!
The character for martial, *wu*,
When deconstructed, means to halt the spear!
Martial arts are not meant for fighting and killing!
On a small scale, they protect oneself; on a large scale, they defend the country!
"I've made breakfast for you. Go wash up and eat." Wang Han flexed his fingers. Visibly, the fingers coated in the medicinal liquid were already reducing in swelling.
Su Qi turned and saw steam still rising from the kitchen.
Wang Han pointed toward the bathroom. "I went downstairs and bought you some toiletries, and even spent a pretty penny on a bottle of Dabao SOD Honey."
Su Qi couldn't help but smile.
Lin Qingyun sent a message saying the sniper rifle Wang Han requested had already been placed in that villa in Longwan.
Wang Han peeled a boiled egg and handed it to Su Qi. After taking a bite, Su Qi said, "Come back to my place with me later."
"What for?"
"To grab my household register, or how else are we going to get our marriage license?" Su Qi said coldly.
Wang Han's hand peeling the egg paused. "Have you thought this through? Do you really want to get a marriage certificate with me?"
Su Qi stared at him. "Otherwise? Scared?"
"If you aren't scared, what the hell do I have to be afraid of?" Wang Han popped an entire egg into his mouth.
"When are we going to meet your parents?" Su Qi asked.
Wang Han took a sip of porridge. "After the child is born."
Su Qi frowned. "Why?"
Wang Han chuckled dryly, "My family has a ton of rigid rules. I'm afraid they might look down on a daughter-in-law like you right now. But once you've given them a grandchild, they certainly won't have anything to say!"
The atmosphere turned awkward instantly.
Smack!
Su Qi put down her bowl.
Ever since she was little, she had always been the center of attention, adored like the moon surrounded by stars. She was proud; countless men would have killed for the chance to prostrate themselves before her, yet she never gave them the time of day.
And now, the petty delivery boy in front of her actually had the nerve to say his family might look down on her!
"Do you mean to say I'm marrying above my station?" Su Qi demanded.
Wang Han put on a shy expression. "Don't be so unconfident. My family is actually pretty easygoing. You've got great looks, a fine figure, and wonderful temperament—it's just that your family background is a bit lacking."
"?"
Chapter 9: Assassination
The Su Family was, after all, a prominent and wealthy household in Jiangning City.
Even if they were currently on the verge of bankruptcy, a lean camel was still bigger than a horse.
Yet a mere delivery boy had the audacity to say the Su Family's background was a bit lacking.
Seeing the change in Su Qi's expression, Wang Han grinned and said, "I'm just bullshitting! Don't take it seriously."
Su Qi didn't press the matter; she was gradually growing accustomed to Wang Han talking nonsense nonstop.
Wiping her little mouth, she said, "Let's go."
Downstairs, Wang Han wheeled out his electric scooter.
Patting the back seat, Su Qi stepped up and climbed on.
It drew quite a few lingering gazes.
At the entrance of the residential complex.
Inside a black Mercedes-Benz commercial van.
Qin Hao sat with a gloomy expression.
Through the car window, he watched Wang Han ride away on the electric scooter with Su Qi, so furious that he slammed his fist against the backrest.
"Fuck! That bitch! She actually spent the night sleeping with a delivery boy! Is she out here playing charity worker for the countryside?!"
Qin Hao was so angry his face turned pale.
"Young Master Qin, what should we do now?"
Asked a scar-faced man wearing a thick gold chain.
Qin Hao's face twisted in malice. "What do we do? What the fuck else can we do? Beat this delivery boy to death for me! Then figure out a way to drag Su Qi to a hotel! I'm definitely going to sleep with this cheap whore today! She won't let me sleep with her, but she'll sleep with a delivery boy? I can't take this anymore!" Qin Hao roared.
The scar-faced man nodded. "Don't worry, Young Master Qin. I'll make sure it's handled properly."
"Then what the fuck are you standing around for? Go!" Qin Hao kicked the scar-faced man in the thigh.
The scar-faced man scrambled out of the car, jumped into a van, and tailed Wang Han's electric scooter.
At the same time.
Inside a dark basement.
A foreigner pulled out a photograph of a woman, pinned it to the wall with a dagger, and glanced at his two companions. "Let's move out!"
As the men raised their hands, a black hexagram tattoo was visible on the skin just beneath their sleeves.
The woman in the photograph was none other than Lin Xuefu.
Wang Han rode the electric scooter, though a careful observer would notice he managed to avoid every single surveillance camera.
Initially, Su Qi had only lightly pinched the fabric of Wang Han's clothes, but Wang Han was driving far too fast.
If the electric scooter had wings, it probably could have taken flight.
Before long, Su Qi wrapped both arms around Wang Han's waist, and Wang Han reached back to grab her little hands, urging her to hold onto him tightly.
The two of them pressed closely together.
Resting against Wang Han's back, Su Qi could clearly hear the steady beat of his heart.
It was a very strange sensation.
Wang Han glanced at the rearview mirror.
Ever since they left the residential complex, both a Mercedes and a van had been tailing them.
Wang Han deliberately took a few detours, but both vehicles continued to follow.
Su Qi, entirely oblivious, remained as clueless as a little dork.
When they reached the front gate,
Wang Han realized that bunch of people was still trailing them.
It looked like these fellows had all come exclusively for him.
He needed to lure them away and deal with them.
Turning around, he looked at Su Qi. "Go on ahead and grab your things. I have some business to attend to."
Su Qi said coldly, "You aren't trying to run away out of fear, are you?"
"Afraid of my foot, you fussy old woman. Go home and wait for me."
With that, Wang Han revved the scooter and sped toward District A.
The individuals behind him followed closely.
With practiced familiarity, he arrived at that massive, exorbitant mega-villa—the most expensive one in Jiangning City.
Wang Han pulled a case out from beneath the sofa.
Upon opening it, he revealed a sniper rifle.
He quickly assembled the weapon
and screwed on the silencer.
Cradling the rifle, Wang Han headed upstairs.
Just as he reached the top of the stairwell, however, he suddenly caught sounds coming from the upper floor. Listening closely, it was a woman humming a tune.
He pulled back the bolt and crept upward, keeping close to the wall.
He saw that the door to a second-floor bedroom was wide open.
A black lace bra was tossed on the bed, along with a pair of matching panties.
Black silk stockings were draped casually over the back of a chair.
A woman's singing drifted out from the en-suite bathroom.
The splashing of water suddenly ceased.
The bathroom door swung open.
Lin Xuefu walked out completely naked, drying her hair with a towel.
The moment she stepped out, she locked eyes with Wang Han, who was standing right outside the door holding a gun.
Ah!
A piercing shriek echoed from the room.
Lin Xuefu scrambled to grab a bath towel, wrapping it hastily around her delicate figure.
Wang Han slammed the door shut.
"You stinky delivery boy! I'm going to kill you!" Lin Xuefu screamed from inside the bedroom.
Wang Han ignored her completely.
He strode quickly to the window,
pried it open a crack, and aligned his sights with Building Number 6.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
"Hello, property management? I'm the owner of Building Number 6. Our plumbing is broken, send someone over quickly to fix it."
He hung up.
Wang Han set his phone down beside him and started a countdown timer.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw that the van which had tailed them all the way here had also arrived, alongside several other figures.
Wang Han cracked a smile—he was about to have a grand free-for-all today.
The high-end community's property staff arrived promptly.
A worker knocked on the door.
Yet nobody inside Building Number 6 bothered to come out.
The staff muttered outside the entrance
before eventually turning away in frustration.
The moment the property staff left...
Wang Han squeezed the trigger.
A single shot struck dead center at the front entrance.
A hole punched through the door, and through it, someone could faintly be seen lying in a pool of blood.
Hydra, the fourth-ranked assassin on the hit list, had died without even getting a single line of dialogue.
Wang Han dialed Lin Qingyun's number. "Send some people over to Longwan, and clean up Building 6 in District A."
"Understood."
No sooner had he hung up than the bedroom door flew open, and Lin Xuefu stormed out furiously, looking like she wanted murder someone.
"Stinky delivery boy! Who gave you the gall to break into my house!"
Wang Han leaned back against the windowsill, appreciating Lin Xuefu's graceful physique.
She had changed into a semi-transparent purple sexy nightgown.
Most people wouldn't be able to pull off such attire, but draped over Lin Xuefu, it possessed a unique, captivating charm.
Clutching her collar with one hand and holding her phone with the other, Lin Xuefu barked, "Get the hell out of my house! Or I'm calling the police!"
Wang Han lit a cigarette. "Is this your house?"
"Of course it's my house! Could it possibly be yours?" Lin Xuefu rebuked angrily.
Wang Han made no move to leave. "What if it actually *is* my house?"
Lin Xuefu let out a disdainful scoff. "Take a piss and look at yourself in the mirror. Do you have any idea how much this house costs? One hundred and seventy million! Even if I calculate your delivery job wages at ten thousand a month, to buy this house you'd have to work without eating or drinking for... for..."
Wang Han took over the sentence, "Fourteen thousand six hundred and sixty-seven years."
Lin Xuefu huffed indignantly, "Who asked you to calculate! It's not like I don't know how! Stinky delivery boy! Do you realize the gap between us now? I'm warning you, stay away from our Nannan from now on! Don't think I don't know what goes on inside that brain of yours! If you want to be a kept man, at least check whether you're worthy!"
"I really don't like the sound of that! What do you mean I'm a kept man? Am I that kind of person?"
Lin Xuefu put her hands on her hips. "Are you not? I'm warning you, you—"
Before she could finish her sentence, Wang Han lunged forward in a flying leap.
He tackled Lin Xuefu to the floor on the spot.
Pinned beneath Wang Han, Lin Xuefu's slender, soft body felt warm and alluring.
Ah!
Lin Xuefu let out yet another shriek.
"Bastard! Let go of me! You..."
Before she could finish,
a loud *bang* rang out.
A picture frame hanging on the wall dislodged
and shattered instantly upon impact.
A fresh bullet hole now marred the wall.
Lin Xuefu turned pale with fright.
"W-What's going on?"
Cradling Lin Xuefu, Wang Han rolled across the floor and dived straight into the bedroom.
Chapter 10: Abays
Lin Xuefu, who had been screaming at the top of her lungs just moments ago, now curled up tight inside Wang Han's embrace, her wide eyes staring nervously outside.
Bang!
Another bullet shattered the bedroom window.
Glass shards flew everywhere, and yet another bullet hole appeared on the wall.
Startled, Lin Xuefu shuddered, causing her full breasts to gently quiver.
Wang Han lowered his gaze and couldn't help stealing another glance.
Lin Xuefu immediately covered her chest. "Don't look! Look again and I'll gouge your eyes out!"
Wang Han sat up against the wall.
He glanced at Lin Xuefu. "It's fine now, get up."
Still lingering with fear, Lin Xuefu slowly stood up. But the second she rose, Wang Han kicked out at her shin, sending her crashing back down to the floor.
Before she could even cry out, another *bang* echoed.
Yet another hole appeared in the wall.
At that exact moment, Wang Han suddenly surged upward,
firing a shot straight out the window.
Smoke curled from the barrel.
Through his rifle scope, Wang Han saw a figure collapse into a pool of blood.
Badly shaken, Lin Xuefu gradually realized she had been manipulated into acting as bait by Wang Han, leaving her both furious and terrified.
She glared at the man before her. "Hey! Delivery boy! What on earth is going on here?"
Wang Han didn't answer. He dug a bullet casing out from the wall.
The bullet head differed from standard ammunition.
It bore the distinct marking of a six-pointed star.
"Have you been messing with people from Eastern Europe?"
Lin Xuefu's eyes flickered away. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Wang Han tossed the bullet casing onto Lin Xuefu's lap. "This is custom ammunition used by Abays, Eastern Europe's largest assassination organization. They aren't a group you want to mess with. If you're not going to tell me anything, I'm leaving."
Lin Xuefu immediately blurted out, "Don't leave! I'm scared!"
"If you're scared, tell the truth!"
Wang Han pulled back the bolt.
The spent casing ejected.
Just to put on a show, he had only asked Lin Qingyun to prep two rounds of ammunition.
Now that he was out of bullets, this was getting rather annoying.
