Li Li had been injected with a potent sedative by Sears. When she finally regained consciousness, it was deep in the night. Her body felt as heavy as if she had plummeted from a great height and come to a jarring, sudden stop; her mind remained thick and clouded. Gazing at the completely unfamiliar surroundings, the memories of what happened before she fell asleep surged back. Sears and Shang Yang had presumed victory was within their grasp, never anticipating that Shang Che would locate them so rapidly. Seeing that escape was impossible, they had immediately set their sights on her. "If you want to live, cooperate," Sears had said, returning her phone. "Tell Shang Che to leave, or he’ll come here and you’ll both die." Li Li had shot him a cold, disdainful look. Irritated by her defiance, Shang Yang and Sears abandoned their soft approach for brute force. Knowing she was skilled in combat, Shang Yang had stopped Sears from trying to restrain her physically, opting instead to incapacitate her with a single shot of a sedative.
