Neither he nor the vehicle had been found. Searches conducted in the mountains in the direction he had been heading yielded no clues, and there was no record of him leaving the country. It was as if he had evaporated into thin air. Jiang Zheng sat in the corner, head bowed. It was the first time I had seen him display sorrow. I had always thought of him as cold and heartless, yet in the face of his relative's disappearance, he was clearly shaken. He and Jiang Huai were orphans; though he was only ten years older than Jiang Huai, he had raised him like a father. His bond with his younger brother was incredibly deep. "You must find him," Jiang Zheng said to the police, his eyes red and his voice nearly hoarse. "Spare no expense." "We will notify you if we find any leads," the officer replied. "I want him found, alive or dead," Jiang Zheng said through gritted teeth, his voice filled with hatred.
