The car jolted and swayed as it reached the industrial park, where armed locals were visible everywhere. Their dark, weathered faces were devoid of any expression, cold and indifferent, while their eyes were chillingly predatory—like creatures lacking flesh and blood. The sky, already overcast, seemed to darken further as the grim, dangerous atmosphere churned around us. A suffocating sense of dread hung in the air. Even a venomous woman like Liang Xinwei showed a flicker of fear upon seeing the D-nation locals armed with real guns and live ammunition, instinctively clutching Fu Hanyi’s arm tightly. Fu Hanyi’s expression was icy; though he showed no outward sign of terror, his tension was palpable. The police car in front presented its credentials. The armed locals said something to Officer Wang and his team that I couldn’t understand, though I could guess it was a warning not to stir up trouble. The police car was allowed to pass.
