I stayed by Great-grandfather’s side all night, surprisingly not returning to Fu Hanyi’s side. My love for him was fading day by day, and the time I spent trapped by his side was dwindling right along with it.
Elderly people sleep little. Early in the morning, Great-grandfather got up and spent a while in the garden, moving slowly through Tai Chi to loosen up his stiff limbs. Watching his kind, peaceful face, I felt a mixture of warmth and sorrow. I truly wished I could come back to life, to stay by his side forever, and by the side of everyone who loved me. But alas, I could never return. Even this drifting spirit of mine might one day scatter into nothingness, bidding a final farewell to my loved ones.
