"Help me!" I heard my own voice, ringing with terrifying clarity. A suffocating sensation gripped my neck, as if I were being swallowed by something formless. I snapped my eyes open, gasping for air, and realized I was lying in a bathtub. The faucet was running full blast; the water had already risen above my nose. My instinct was to sit up and shut it off, but I found I couldn't move a muscle. Yet, I could see my body submerged in the water. It was no longer a wispy, fog-like spirit, but a solid, tangible frame of flesh and blood. How? I had just jumped out of a window—how could I be in a bathtub the next instant?
