"Hmph, you’re becoming more useless by the day." A look of disdain crossed Chang Yufang’s eyes.
Her remark was double-edged; it wasn't just about Liu Bin botching a deal, but also a jab at his performance in the bedroom. Liu Bin, scolded like this, didn't have the stomach to fight back; he could only accept it in silence.
Suddenly, Chang Yufang asked, "Wait, if you’re looking for a scapegoat, you could’ve used that Chen Xuan. Why did you have to use Bai Chun? Do you think I’m stupid?" With that, she reached out and grabbed Liu Bin by the ear.
"Ouch! Yufang, take it easy, take it easy!" Liu Bin cried out in pain, forced to lower his voice. For a grown man, being treated this way was humiliating enough.
"Liu Bin, tired of me, are you? Looking to trade up for a young girl, is that it? Let’s see how I teach you a lesson today!" Chang Yufang pulled his ear even harder.
"Ow, ow! Yufang, listen to me!" Liu Bin winced, gritting his teeth as he explained, "That brat Chen Xuan is harder than a rock—he just won't sign the compensation contract. Bai Chun has a softer personality and is easier to handle. You have to understand my predicament!"
After this barrage of excuses, Chang Yufang finally released his ear, though her face remained skeptical.
"Yufang, for the sake of that million, for our future, you really have to help me this time," Liu Bin pleaded with a bitter expression.
Chang Yufang glared at him. "You know how strict the new President, President Shen, is. She needs to approve even the firing of an intern. If she finds out you were looking for a fall guy..."
"I’ll handle that part myself. You just need to help me fire Chen Xuan," Liu Bin said, gritting his teeth. He had already pulled enough shady stunts at the company; one more wouldn’t make a difference.
Once they had finished their discussion, the two walked back out of the office.
"Chen Xuan, come with me to the HR department to sign your papers, and then you can leave the Shen Group," Chang Yufang said, looking at Chen Xuan with an expressionless face.
"And if I refuse?" Chen Xuan smiled.
Liu Bin, having anticipated this, sneered, "Chen Xuan, whether you agree or not isn't up to you. If you insist on lingering, I'll call security. Don't come crying to me when you're thrown out and make a fool of yourself!"
Hearing the threat, Chen Xuan simply folded his arms and leaned against a desk, looking exactly like the troublemaker Liu Bin had described.
Liu Bin was so furious he nearly fumed at the ears. He lifted the desk phone, ready to dial security.
Just then, a middle-aged woman wearing glasses walked in and asked, "Is Mr. Chen Xuan here?"
When they saw who it was, everyone was stunned. It was Zhang Yun, the HR manager. Why would she be looking for Chen Xuan, and why did her tone sound so respectful? No one could fathom it.
Liu Bin asked in astonishment, "Manager Zhang, what are you doing here looking for Chen Xuan? I’ve already fired him!"
"What?" Zhang Yun’s expression darkened instantly. She snapped, "Liu Bin, how dare you fire Mr. Chen? He is the Group’s newly appointed Chief Physician!"
When Zhang Yun had received the call from Shen Binglan, she couldn't believe an intern from the Marketing Department was being hired by the President as a Chief Physician with an annual salary of three million. Even more shocking was the medical contract she was instructed to draft for two million. She didn't know who President Shen wanted Chen Xuan to treat, but she had never seen a medical fee as high as two million in her life.
Though difficult to believe, the seasoned HR manager accepted the facts quickly and prepared the two contracts immediately. Feeling honored that President Shen had entrusted her with such an important task, she had hurried to the Marketing Department as fast as she could. The last thing she expected upon arrival was to hear that Liu Bin had fired Chen Xuan—her heart sank.
The entire Marketing Department was shocked. Chief Physician of the Shen Group? How could such a high-status position possibly be linked to Chen Xuan, an intern? They wondered if they had misheard. Even Liu Bin froze, unable to respond to Zhang Yun’s rebuke.
Chang Yufang was the first to regain her senses. She rolled her eyes and asked skeptically, "What Chief Physician? Zhang Yun, explain yourself." As HR manager, Zhang Yun was a rival, and Chang Yufang didn't bother to be polite.
"President Shen has just hired Mr. Chen Xuan as our Group’s Chief Physician. I am here for him to sign the contracts," Zhang Yun said, placing the two documents in front of everyone.
The entire room was stunned by the figures on the page: a three-million-a-year salary and a two-million medical fee. A five-million-dollar contract!
Chen Xuan, having already been informed, said calmly, "Manager Zhang, I am Chen Xuan."
Seeing how young he was, Zhang Yun, despite her preparation, couldn't help but look surprised. She then said respectfully, "So you are Mr. Chen. Please, sign these two contracts." She handed him the documents and a pen.
"Hold on!" Chang Yufang interjected. "Zhang Yun, isn't this too hasty? Chen Xuan is just an intern. Aren't you afraid you’ve got the wrong person?"
Her words struck a chord with everyone in the office. After all, Chen Xuan had literally just bumped into President Shen this morning—how could she hire him as a Chief Physician with a million-dollar salary by the afternoon? It seemed impossible.
"Exactly! This Chen Xuan is late for work, talks back to his superiors, and has no sense of decorum. I’m in the middle of firing him! How could President Shen possibly hire him?" Liu Bin joined in, his voice agitated. He felt relieved that Chang Yufang had the presence of mind to point this out.
"This... is there another Chen Xuan in the company?" Zhang Yun asked, suddenly uncertain.
Chang Yufang sneered, "Zhang Yun, how did you become HR manager? You don't even know who President Shen hired, and you’re already issuing contracts? If this causes the company to lose five million, can you afford to take the blame?" As the deputy HR manager, she had long coveted Zhang Yun’s position and wasn't about to let such a rare opportunity slip by.
Zhang Yun broke into a cold sweat. If she really had made a mistake, President Shen would certainly fire her.
"Manager Zhang, you haven't got the wrong person. President Shen really did hire me," Chen Xuan said calmly.
"Chen Xuan, stop spouting nonsense! Get out of here right now!" Liu Bin, now confident, shouted at him.
"Manager Liu, are you absolutely sure you want to fire me?" Chen Xuan remained relaxed, wearing a faint smile.
Liu Bin yelled arrogantly, "That’s right, I’m firing you! Begging won't help. I’m calling security right now!"
"You dare?"
A voice rang out from behind.
"Why wouldn't I dare?" Liu Bin didn't even stop to think, his voice full of bravado. As he turned toward the voice, his face drained of color, looking worse than if he’d just seen a ghost.
"P-President Shen? Why are you down here?" Liu Bin’s voice trembled. Fear gripped him—why was the President at the Marketing Department? And he had just snapped back at her.
Shen Binglan walked over, her exquisite black heels clicking against the floor. She moved with the cold, radiant presence of a queen, commanding the room. To Chen Xuan, her stride was far more mesmerizing than any top-tier model. A goddess—she was truly a goddess.
Shen Binglan stood before them, her face cold and untouchable.
"Liu Bin, who gave you the courage to fire Chen Xuan?" Shen Binglan’s voice was as cold as Arctic ice.
Liu Bin’s legs turned to jelly; he could barely stand. He didn't understand. Chen Xuan was an intern in his department—as a manager, didn't he have the right to fire him? But he didn't dare voice these thoughts. He forced a sycophantic smile. "President Shen, since you’ve graced us with your presence, perhaps you’d like to sit in my office? I’ll brew some tea and explain the situation in detail."
"Hmph, enough with the nonsense!" Shen Binglan turned to Chen Xuan. "Chen Xuan, you tell me."
Chen Xuan’s lips curled into a smile. He concisely explained how Liu Bin had tried to fire him, how he had forced Bai Chun to sign a compensation contract, and how Chang Yufang had questioned Zhang Yun.
The expressions of Liu Bin and Chang Yufang shifted rapidly as he spoke. When he reached the part about the compensation contract, they were terrified, wanting to stop him but not daring to interrupt. By the time Chen Xuan finished, both of their faces were deathly pale.
