Chapter 9

"President Shen, this Chen Xuan is completely talking nonsense! You must not believe a word he says!" Liu Bin stammered, sweating profusely. If Shen Binglan discovered his one-million-yuan compensation contract, he would truly be finished.
Shen Binglan cast a cold glance at Liu Bin and said, "Chen Xuan is the chief physician I personally hired. Am I not in a better position than you to know whether his words can be trusted?"
"What?"
Everyone present was stunned by Shen Binglan's words.
Liu Bin's plastered smile instantly froze, looking worse than crying.
Chang Yufang's face turned ashen in an instant, her mind plunging into total chaos.
That meant the five-million-yuan contract Zhang Yun had given Chen Xuan to sign was real, and Shen Binglan had genuinely hired Chen Xuan as the chief physician?
Trembling, Liu Bin said, "President Shen, Chen Xuan is just an intern, and he didn't even major in medicine. How could you..."
"Liu Bin, are you questioning my judgment?" Shen Binglan's single sentence choked off whatever else Liu Bin had been about to say.
At that moment, Liu Bin wished he could slap himself twice for blurting out such a moronic remark; he would have been better off playing dead like Chang Yufang.
Shen Binglan continued, "As for you, Liu Bin—a manager holding a prominent position in the group, yet utterly incompetent and abusing your power to the point of forcing subordinates to take the fall for you. You no longer deserve to work here!"
Every word from Shen Binglan struck Liu Bin like a heavy hammer. Fear, resentment, and despair flickered in his eyes as he seemed on the verge of a breakdown.
"President Shen, you are going to fire me based solely on Chen Xuan's word? I won't accept this!" Liu Bin suddenly went wild, his voice turning hysterical. "Furthermore, I am a manager-level employee. Even if you want to fire me, it has to go through the board of directors!"
Shen Binglan's expression darkened completely.
An invisible blizzard seemed to be brewing in the air.
Except for Chen Xuan, everyone involuntarily held their breath.
"You're right—firing you would normally require approval from the board of directors." Shen Binglan stared straight at Liu Bin, her tone turning abruptly icy. "That was before!"
Pausing for a moment, Shen Binglan continued, "Right now, I am the President of the Shen family Group, which means I have the final say over everything in this company! I want to fire you, and I don't need anyone's approval to do it!"
Completely devastated, Liu Bin dropped abruptly to his knees, weeping and wailing as he begged, "President Shen, in consideration of my years of service to the group—even if I haven't made major contributions, I've worked hard! Please give me one more chance and don't fire me!"
Right now, he looked just like a dog begging for scraps. Seeing this, the employees who had previously been oppressed by him felt immensely gratified.
Seeing that Shen Binglan remained unresponsive, Liu Bin turned his gaze to Chen Xuan and pleaded, "Chen Xuan, Chief Physician Chen, in light of the fact that I used to be your supervisor, please help put in a good word for me with President Shen! I will definitely repay you well in the future!"
"So you remember you were my supervisor? Too bad I don't want to see a supervisor like you anymore." Chen Xuan sneered coldly. He wasn't the type to waste his sympathy on someone like this.
Liu Bin's heart instantly turned to ash. In his wildest dreams, he never could have imagined that within just a few short minutes, his position and Chen Xuan's would be completely reversed. She—wait, he—was fired, while Chen Xuan was soaring to success with a million-year salary. Liu Bin was consumed by regret and hatred.
Having dealt with Liu Bin, Shen Binglan turned to Chang Yufang and said, "And you, Chang Yufang—having an illicit relationship with Liu Bin and damaging the company's image. Starting today, you don't need to come to work either. Zhang Yun, handle the paperwork for both of them, and notify the legal department to process the one million yuan Liu Bin owes in compensation."
"Yes, President Shen," Zhang Yun replied respectfully.
In the span of just a few sentences, Shen Binglan had fired both a manager and a deputy manager. If this wasn't dominance, what was?
The employees looked at Shen Binglan with expressions of sheer adoration, completely won over by this decisive president.
Leaders like Liu Bin and Chang Yufang were nothing more than corporate parasites; firing them was an absolute cause for celebration.
Chang Yufang collapsed onto the floor like a limp pile of mud. Just minutes ago, she had been dreaming sweet dreams of promotions and pay raises, only to watch them shatter into pieces in an instant.
"Oh, right, the vacant position of Marketing Department manager—Chen Xuan, you'll take it." Shen Binglan's next sentence shocked everyone so much they nearly bit off their own tongues.
The way everyone looked at Chen Xuan changed instantly.
Chen Xuan had seemingly done nothing at all, yet he had gotten President Shen to fire managerial-level figures like Liu Bin and Chang Yufang. Not to mention, President Shen was handing over a powerful and lucrative position like Marketing Department manager to him, let alone that astronomical five-million-yuan contract.
What kind of absurd luck had this Chen Xuan run into? Had he blocked a bullet for President Shen or something?
They simply couldn't make sense of it. After all, prior to today, Chen Xuan had been the lowest-ranking person in the entire department.
Besides, he clearly wasn't any kind of medical expert—he hadn't even studied medicine—so how on earth had he been hired by the president as the group's chief physician?
Bai Chun stared at Chen Xuan with profound astonishment as well. She had once thought she understood Chen Xuan quite well, but today she realized that everything about him was an absolute enigma.
"President Shen, you'd better find someone more capable for the Marketing Department manager position. I'll pass," Chen Xuan said, wearing an expression that suggested it would be too much of a hassle.
What the hell! Everyone was so startled by Chen Xuan's words their jaws nearly hit the floor. He was acting way too arrogant!
A high-paying position that others dreamed of, yet Chen Xuan acted as if he utterly despised it—was he out of his mind?
Frustration flared up inside Shen Binglan as well. This damned fellow had rejected her yet again, and right in front of so many people, too. How was she, the president, supposed to save face?
No wonder he possessed such miraculous medical skills yet remained stuck working as a humble intern here—hmph, truly lacking in ambition and drive.
Gritting her teeth, Shen Binglan finally said, "If you don't want to do it, just take the title in name for now. I'll find a suitable person soon enough and replace you!"
With that, she spun around and strode swiftly away, suspecting that if she stayed here any longer, she would genuinely be angered to death by Chen Xuan.
At this point, everyone looked at Chen Xuan with completely different eyes. How on earth had he pulled this off, reducing the tiger-like president to a state of utter helplessness?
All they could do was admire him—they admired him from the very bottom of their hearts!
Liu Bin and Chang Yufang followed Zhang Yun out, their faces stamped with expressions of humiliation and despair.
Yet no matter how much resentment and grievance they felt toward Chen Xuan, neither of them dared to cause trouble within the Shen family Group; otherwise, the consequences wouldn't stop at merely being fired.
With the resources and influence of the Shen family, sending them to prison would be effortless.
Once Liu Bin and the others had cleared out, the employees of the Marketing Department crowded around him.
"Chen Xuan, congratulations on your promotion!"
"What do you mean, 'Chen Xuan'? Call him Manager Chen! Congratulations, Manager Chen!"
"Manager Chen is truly young and promising. With you at the helm, our Marketing Department is definitely going to thrive!"
Hearing this cheesy flattery, Chen Xuan merely smiled, noncommittal.
Following the wind and steering with the tide was human nature; now that he had suddenly become President Shen's favored person, naturally everyone wanted to get on his good side.
Besides, with Liu Bin, that perverted manager, finally fired, the Marketing Department felt liberated. Every single person was happy from the bottom of their heart.
"I hereby announce that starting today, the rule requiring the Marketing Department to come in half an hour early is officially abolished. Everyone will resume normal working hours!" Newly appointed, Chen Xuan's first order of business was scrapping Liu Bin's perverted rule.
"Oh yeah!"
Everyone broke out into cheers. Finally, they could sleep in for an extra half-hour every day—for urban office workers, that was precious time indeed.
"Chen Xuan, how did you suddenly become so amazing? I barely recognize you anymore," Bai Chun asked softly, blinking her curious eyes.
"You're still calling me Chen Xuan? It's Manager Chen!" Chen Xuan deliberately put on a stern face.
Bai Chun was startled, momentarily speechless. Could it be true that everyone eventually turns into the kind of person they despise?
Just as Bai Chun was beginning to worry that Chen Xuan might turn out just like Liu Bin, Chen Xuan burst out laughing, and the realization finally dawned on her that he was just teasing her.
"Hmph, being a manager makes you so great? Scaring people like that," Bai Chun pouted, looking aggrieved.
The two of them had already enjoyed a very good working relationship within the department. If Bai Chun hadn't known long ago that Chen Xuan had a girlfriend, their relationship might have even progressed a step further.
Of course, Bai Chun still didn't know that Xu Jing had dumped Chen Xuan last night.
Looking at Bai Chun's cute little face, Chen Xuan smiled and said, "That's right, being a manager means I can do whatever I want—for instance, I'll make you a regular employee ahead of schedule right now."
"Are you serious?" Bai Chun froze for a moment, her eyes instantly filling with pleasant surprise.
"Are you questioning your direct supervisor's words?" Chen Xuan tapped Bai Chun lightly on the forehead. "Besides, given our relationship, getting you made regular ahead of schedule is no big deal."
Bai Chun's face flushed slightly as she said sincerely, "Chen Xuan, thank you."
A strange light flickered in her eyes as she looked at Chen Xuan, though the thought that he already had a girlfriend left a vague, blocked sensation in her chest.
"Don't thank me, just go back and do a good job," Chen Xuan said with a smile.
Walking into the manager's office, Chen Xuan slumped comfortably into the swivel chair. Realizing he would never have to do those exhausting odd jobs as an intern ever again, he truly wanted to shout out loud: *Awesome!*
Furthermore, he was currently just a titular department manager who didn't actually have to do any work—naturally, the deputy manager and subordinate employees would handle everything.
How many people spent their whole lives dreaming of such an idle, cushy job with high pay and zero responsibilities, yet never managed to get it?
Even if this Marketing Department manager position was only temporary for Chen Xuan.
"Right, once the contract is signed, I still need to take the backup copy back to Manager Zhang Yun."
Despite his lofty promotion to Marketing Department manager, Chen Xuan had no intention of putting on airs as a big boss. He decided to make a trip to the Personnel Department himself to deliver the duplicate contract to Zhang Yun.
