Chapter 189

Stepping out of the carriage, Jerry felt as nervous as a trapped little rabbit as he looked at his mysterious client, Xu Lin. A hint of worry and hesitation flickered in Jerry's bright blue eyes. He bit his lower lip slightly, his mind racing with thoughts. Although from their very first interaction Jerry had sensed that Xu Lin was not the unreasonable or deadbeat sort, he still could not shake a profound sense of anxiety before the hard cash was actually in his hand. After all, he had spent the entire morning on this matter; if he ended up with nothing to show for all his running around, his hard work would go completely to waste. Even if he were paid just a little bit, Jerry would have gladly accepted it—at least it would be some recognition of his efforts. Jerry cast occasional, furtive glances at Xu Lin, only to see him looking around with great interest, as if utterly fascinated by everything in this completely unfamiliar place. Jerry was torn apart with anxiety. He desperately wanted to ask for his payment, yet he was terrified that doing so would offend Xu Lin. If that happened, he would end up with absolutely nothing, perhaps not even a single coin.
