Xu Lin walked back to the Special Operations Team base with heavy steps and a troubled expression. His brow was furrowed, as if an unsolvable knot of worries weighed on his mind. Along the way, General Shane's words echoed continuously in his head, every single word striking his heart like a heavy hammer. He knew very well that this was a thorny dilemma; for the moment, he simply could not figure out how to break the news to Petra. Before he knew it, he had reached the entrance of the base. Mark was on guard duty today. He stood upright, his vigilant gaze scanning the surroundings. Xu Lin offered a distracted, casual greeting and headed straight inside the base. Watching Xu Lin's departing back, Mark frowned slightly. He could clearly sense that the captain was somewhat abnormal today; that absent-minded demeanor made him look as though he had lost his soul. Curiosity filled Mark's heart, but he dared not ask too much. In his eyes, Xu Lin was the captain and a figure worthy of deep respect. While he might casually banter with the other team members on ordinary days, in front of Xu Lin he was always proper and well-behaved, never daring to overstep even a fraction. A short while later, Mark saw Thomas walking out of the base, getting ready for training. As if spotting a savior, Mark hurriedly ran over, grabbed Thomas, and asked impatiently, "Brother, do you know what's wrong with the captain?" Eagerness and confusion filled his eyes.
