The entire village was draped in mourning. From one end to the other, white lanterns and white silk strips hung everywhere in tribute. The villagers who had returned to the village moments before the rest were already draped in sackcloth and ashes, kneeling before their own doorsteps. They wept in inconsolable grief, burning paper money in iron braziers. "Woe is me! You died such an unjust death!" "Your life was so bitter!"
